Tackling International Wine Distribution Challenges

In order to meet strict and complex import regulations, an East Coast distributor needed to supplement its current software with improved automated purchasing systems. RSM McGladrey consultants installed advanced purchasing software to allow additional capabilities in handling foreign currency translation - a key to remaining competitive in the foreign goods industry. The new module, working in conjunction with new sales and inventory software, has allowed the company to maintain low administrative staffing levels even as their business grows.

Our client, an East Coast-based international distributor, recognized that as the company grew so did their desire for more sophisticated software systems. Since there are multiple regulations associated with being an international wine distributor, having advanced software systems is critical to remaining competitive and expanding a business.

Situation:

With a growing customer base and increased product offerings came the need for improved inventory and sales software solutions. And as import regulations became stricter and more complex, having more advanced purchasing software became crucial to managing the accounting aspects of buying and selling foreign products.

In the end, RSM McGladrey consultants installed advanced Microsoft Dynamics GP sales, inventory and purchasing software solutions. These modules were seamlessly integrated into the company’s existing software system.

 

Outcome:

While all three modules were invaluable to the company’s continuing success, the purchasing module has allowed them to take the largest strides toward achieving their business objectives. It provides the company with additional capabilities to handle foreign currency translation, which is critical to running a successful international business.

And even as their business grows, this module, in addition to sales and inventory modules, has enabled the company to maintain low administrative staffing levels – a luxury that affords them the opportunity to focus more resources on serving their customers.
