In a game of friendly competition between McGladrey & Pullen and RSM McGladrey, the two groups joined forces in a fight against lung cancer this past Sunday in the Free to Breathe Lung Cancer 5K.
The event, which took place on November 2nd was held along the Schuylkill River down Kelly Drive. The team raised over $1,200 for the National Lung Cancer Partnership in race registrations and “Jeans Days” donations. Jeans Day is a monthly event that supports various charitable causes where $5 is collected from each person wanting to wear jeans.
Back in September, Jennifer Panaro, Senior Associate of McGladrey & Pullen, put the challenge to the two groups. All were welcomed to attend including clients. In total, 36 employees plus several friends and family turned out to show their support. “We choose this event because everyone could participate. You could either walk or run the 5 kilometers. This cause also honors a colleague suffering from the disease” Panaro, organizer of the event, continues, “and considering it was the first year we held the event, we were very happy with the turnout.”
Congratulations to Katie Boligitz who finished second among females and 13th overall with a time of 20:09. Her father, Jim is a Director at McGladrey & Pullen. Chris Itri, their highest finishing employee, completed the race in 21:42 finishing 26th overall.
